See moreSince Patrón is a firm believer in the fact that it’s 5 o’clock somewhere, we invite you to raise a glass to 2017’s Margarita of the Year! Much like the red wine floated on its surface, the Coralina Margarita made a splash to earn the cocktail’s highest honor. Patrón Reposado gave the margarita a hint of oak flavor, and a sugar-salt hibiscus rim ensured the victory was perfectly sweet. This whimsical creation took the crown by winning the popular vote from the competition’s start on National Margarita Day through April 16th.
While it was certainly a much-deserved victory, it wasn’t necessarily easy. After being named a finalist, the Coralina Margarita had to again garner the most votes against the English Garden Margarita and the High Plains Margarita. (Both still deserving of a taste and a toast!)
Bartender Riesler Morales from Mexico City was the brains – and hands – responsible for creating such a delightful and unique margarita with a backstory to match. When asked about his inspiration for the cocktail, Morales responded, “My drink is inspired by a story of two people who meet abruptly on a beach. The woman, Coralina, spots the man of her dreams on this beach. They meet and fall in love. The color of my cocktail represents the love they saw for the first time – it’s a story of love.”
And we foresee it being a love story for the ages, as it’s already taken its place in margarita history. Get a taste of the Coralina Margarita at a bar near you, or get the ingredients delivered right to your door.
