Around the World in Nine Palomas
Elevate your summer with refreshingly perfect Patrón Tequila cocktails.
Apr. 28, 2022
The Paloma is arguably the perfect cocktail. It has a base of bright citrus and smooth tequila that’s punched up by a sparkling splash of soda and lime. If there were any day to put a twist on the Paloma, it would have to be World Paloma Day on May 22, 2022. To celebrate, our best bartenders created nine Paloma recipes inspired by the best cities from around the world to show how all corners of the globe would add their local flavors to this classic cocktail. No surprise here, every recipe starts with the perfect tequila to craft a drink that shows off the flavor of perfection and inspiration from some of the finest cities.
Mexico City’s Patrón Paloma Roja
Inspired by the bright colors of Mexico City, the Patrón Paloma Roja is a double feature of floral flavors, featuring sweet St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur and a hibiscus tea syrup. When added in with the classic Paloma flavors, this bright red recipe captures the feel of the vivid and historical city.
Tokyo’s Patrón Tokyo Paloma
When you think of Tokyo, matcha comes to mind. The Patrón Tokyo Paloma features matcha in a starring role, bringing its bright, grassy flavor together with the classic and sparkling elements of a Paloma. Refreshing and light, this recipe feels just like Jalisco meeting Tokyo for the first time.
Cape Town’s The Cape Paloma
It’s all about what’s natural for Cape Town’s take on the Paloma. The Cape Paloma features MARTINI Bitter, a botanical-infused fortified white wine that’s locally made that brings a light, natural flavor to the recipe, and a raspberry and thyme shrub full of acidic and herbal punch. Together with citrusy grapefruit, this cocktail is made for sipping by the southern sea and enjoying what the Cape has to hold.
Edinburgh’s Patrón Paloma Twist
The salty air coming off of the Scottish shore is the inspiration for Edinburgh’s Patrón Paloma Twist. The botanical elements you can find on a walk down the beach can be found in this recipe, bringing the unique seaside flavor of sea buckthorn and heather together with the classic, sunny flavor of the Paloma.
Bogotá’s Alchemist Patrón Paloma
Bogotá is complex and vibrant, just like the Alchemist Patrón Paloma inspired by it. Featuring ginger and lime soda for a bubbly bite, orange bitters for depth, and a final spray of smoked whiskey to give a nuanced scent before diving into this balanced cocktail, this complex Paloma matches a city made from layers of history and culture.
Rio de Janeiro’s Patrón Paloma Samba
This Paloma, inspired by Rio de Janeiro, brings together both modern and classic flavors like the perfect dance partners in one refreshing recipe. With the classic grapefruit base, the Patrón Paloma Samba layers in sweet, nutty orgeat and a brightening salt rim to add interest and an overall taste that will make you want to dance.
Dubai’s Picante Paloma
The spice of Dubai comes out to play in this ginger and basil-filled Picante Paloma. Fresh ginger juice and whole basil leaves are shaken straight into this spiced up Paloma, complementing the classic grapefruit flavor perfectly, and then a final splash of spicy ginger beer adds a layer of refreshing sparkle to this cocktail made for beating the desert heat.
Sydney’s Patrón Paloma
A thoroughly modern global city, Sydney inspired the Patrón Paloma’s edgy flavors – the slightest touch of sharp heat and a refreshed element of sweetness to the otherwise simple recipe. The dash of habanero sauce and lightly sweet honey water complement the sharp citrus flavors, creating a modern cocktail made to match the ever-changing, new age vibe of Sydney.
Calgary’s Peppered Paloma
Inspired by Calgary’s trendsetting ways, the Peppered Paloma brings together the most modern of flavors into one soon-to-be-sought-after cocktail. Full of exceptionally bright flavors from an orange bell pepper and white peppercorn shrub as well as a dash of deep bitters, this take on the Paloma is anything but ordinary – just like Calgary.
