Since Weber Blue Agave is the literal root of tequila, the production process results in some leftover by-product. Rather than dispose of it in a way that could pollute local land and water, Patrón takes this agave waste, mixes it with concentrated stillage, and produces a nutrient dense compost. In 2016, over 22,000 tons of agave by-product was turned into about 5,500 tons of compost that was used to grow produce in Hacienda Patrón’s own organic garden. The compost also fertilizes the agave fields, and is used in fields, parks, and gardens that serve the community.
