The Proper Way to Make—and Drink!—a Garden Chaser
Aug. 25, 2016
A chaser can be a welcome flavor addition when sipping tequila straight—and when it's made in a large batch, it can also double as a welcome addition to your next gathering. Case in point: This tomato-based Garden Chaser paired with aged Patrón Reposado is such a winning combo, no one will ever be able to sip just one.
Patrón Reposado and Garden Chaser
Makes 16 drinks
- 750 mL bottle Patrón Reposado
- 16 oz tomato juice
- 9 oz dry white wine (1 cup + 2 Tbsp; Muscadet or Pinot Grigio is ideal)
- 9 oz orange juice with pulp (1 cup + 2 tbsp; preferably freshly squeezed)
- ½ oz Tabasco
- 1 oz prepared horseradish (not creamed)
- 1 oz Worcestershire sauce
- 1½ oz lime juice (preferably freshly squeezed)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp celery seed, lightly crushed
Several hours before guests arrive, chill the bottle of Patrón Reposado in the freezer. In a pitcher, combine all the other ingredients and stir well to distribute the spices. Shake 1½ oz of Patrón Reposado with ice and strain into a chilled shot glass. Shake 2 to 2½ ounces of chaser mixture over ice and strain into a small juice glass. Serve the Patrón Reposado alongside the chaser.
