How To Perfect The Añejo-Cherry Smash
Jul. 28, 2016
Attention, people who believe you can have too much of a good thing: The Añejo-Cherry Smash begs to differ. A combination of the Tequila Smash and the old-fashioned, this summery cocktail pairs the best flavors from each, including vanilla bean, agave and fresh cherries. And the result is, well, a very good thing indeed.
Añejo-Cherry Smash
- 2 oz Patrón Añejo
- 3 sweet fresh cherries, plus 1 for garnish, stems and pits removed
- 1 thin orange slice, plus a wedge for garnish
- 1 teaspoon agave nectar
- ¼ whole vanilla bean
- 3 to 5 ice cubes
- 2 oz club soda
Place the pitted cherries, orange slice and agave nectar in a cocktail shaker. Scrape the seeds from inside the vanilla bean and add to the shaker, along with the scraped pod. Muddle the fruit to a pulp, add the Patrón Añejo and stir. Pour over ice in a Collins glass and top with club soda; garnish with a whole cherry and an orange wedge, then serve.
