Rock Out with a Grammys®-Inspired Epic Margarita
Feb. 12, 2016
Music’s biggest night is coming up on Monday, February, 15—but the days leading up to it are also music’s biggest weekend, as the brightest stars in the business flock to Los Angeles to start celebrating before the awards are handed out on Monday.
The Patrón Secret Dining Society is kicking off the weekend with legendary music producer L.A. Reid, author of the new book Sing to Me and the creative force who turned artists like Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber and Kanye West into household names.
This Friday, February 12, Reid is hosting an intimate, 30-person dinner at the stunning Eric Buterbaugh Gallery, complete with a music-inspired menu from chef Michael Hung of Viviane, blooms from florist-to-the-stars Buterbaugh and of course, Patrón cocktails.
You can experience the one-of-a-kind event at home by shaking up an Epic Margarita, a cocktail Reid created exclusively for the dinner with L.A.-based mixologist Rosie Ruiz. Spiked with a refreshing cucumber shrub and just a dash of agave syrup, it’ll be music to your ears.

How to Make
For the Homemade Cucumber Shrub:
1 large cucumber
.25 cup white wine vinegar
.25 cup apple cider vinegar
.25 cup pure cane sugar
.5 teaspoon kosher salt
Make the cucumber shrub: In a food processor, purée the cucumber. Add the white wine and apple cider vinegars, sugar and salt, and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer. Place in a sealed glass container and refrigerate until ready to use. Makes 11 ounces of shrub. Lasts up to 2 months.
For the Agave Syrup:
1 cup hot water
1 cup agave
Make the agave syrup: Add the hot water to the agave. Stir until the agave is dissolved. Let cool. Place in a sealed glass container and refrigerate until ready to use. Lasts up to 2 months.
Make the Epic Margarita: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine all the cocktail ingredients (except the pepper and cucumber garnish) and shake well. Strain into a large rocks glass over fresh ice. Grind one twist of black pepper on top. Garnish with the fanned cucumber spear and serve.
