The Bottle Art Contest Returns

Calling all crafters! The third annual Bottle Art Contest, a contest that invites fans to showcase their artistic vision by outfitting Patrón’s signature bottles, launches on July 11th.
And let’s just say after last year’s tasty competition, our expectations are high. Grand-prize winner Rebecca Stoneback first learned her craft from training under master glassworkers on the Venetian island of Murano in Italy. Last year, she took home $10,000 for “La Abeja” (or, “The Bee” in Spanish) which is an 18-inch-long necklace consisting of 60 glass pieces featuring a tiny bee-shaped bottle filled with tequila.

What inspired your bottle art?
I wanted this piece to really capture the flavors of the tequila -- especially the spirit of the people behind it.
What story were you hoping to tell with your creation?
I wanted each element of the necklace to tell the story of Patrón. I melted and sculpted a Patrón Silver Tequila bottle into 60 beads to represent the 60 hands it takes to make each bottle. I also melted and sculpted the tiny bee bottle, which contains Patrón Silver tequila. I handcrafted a sheet of solid silver to create the wings, in honor of Patrón Silver. The bottle stopper is carved out of a Patrón Silver bottle cork. I was hoping to inspire people to find creative ways to recycle.
Did you have a particular libation in mind when you designed this piece?
I had Patrón Silver Tequila in mind. I’ll admit that I took a few sips while making it, as well!
What’s your favorite way to drink Patrón?
That's a hard question. I enjoy margaritas quite a bit, but I also also enjoy Patrón served neat.
