When is Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo is observed May 5 each year. It commemorates a Mexican army victory in the Battle of Puebla over the French army in 1862. Contrary to what some may think in the United States, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16.
