Social and Environmental Responsibility

A world of good

It's no secret that we have a steadfast commitment to crafting the world's finest tequila, but we're just as dedicated to taking care of the resources and people that make it possible.

Environmental
responsibility

Limiting the environmental impact of our tequila production is and always will be something we hold in the highest regard here at PATRÓN.

WE ARE COMMITTING TO IMPROVING OUR OPERATIONS IN MEXICO BY:

Reducing our water consumption 25% by 2026
Reducing our consumption 50% by 2030
Reusing 100% of the water legally allowed

Committed to Water Sustainability

Water is essential to tequila production, influencing everything from the growth of agave plants to the distillation process, but it’s also essential to our world. That’s why PATRÓN has been committed to protecting and enhancing the community in Jalisco, Mexico, the beautiful home of PATRÓN Tequila, since its inception by acknowledging that recycling and reducing water usage is key to conservation efforts. PATRÓN Tequila has also been a part of the Charco Bendito project since 2020, which aims to replenish 4,000,000 cubic meters of water by 2028 and has planted 53,000 trees—with a projection of 150,000 planted trees by 2028 in the Lerma-Santiago River Basin—to help with water basin projects in Mexico. Together, we’ve worked with municipalities and industry partners to improve water accessibility, quality and availability for local Mexican communities because we understand how precious water is to our world.

Ensuring agave’s sustainability

Without a continual supply of agave, there wouldn’t be tequila, so we’re proactively funding a study with a top agricultural research center in Mexico to ensure the sustainability of the Weber Blue Agave plant for the entire industry. In addition, our jimadors only harvest mature agave, which allows the natural reproduction cycle of the plant to occur, helps prevent overplanting, and plays an important role in preserving the local ecosystem. We also create more than 5,500 tons of fertilizer compost a year from leftover agave fibers from our production process at the Hacienda PATRÓN distillery. And we take in used agave fibers, free of charge, from 10 other neighboring distilleries.

Preserving our community

Since 2015, we’ve reforested or donated approximately 16,000 trees in our local community of Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco. And our reverence for the environment extends to our very own back yard at the Hacienda PATRÓN distillery, where we recently transplanted 3,000 lime trees—rather than cutting them down—to make room for an expansion project.

Paying fairly

In a pioneering effort for the industry, we commit to a minimum price paid to our agave growers to ensure their profitability, even during times of excess supply. It’s simply the right thing to do.

Responsible Employment

Our employees are the heart of what we do, so we’re firmly committed to creating a great working environment for them. This includes offering an after-hours education program and partnering with local universities to reduce costs for our colleagues interested in furthering their studies. We also offer flexible work hours and free employee transport to and from the distillery every day.

Philanthropic Responsibility

We’re proud to help support a variety of philanthropic and charitable organizations in our hometown and across the world. For example, in our community, we support a local food bank that offers essential supplies to over 1,000 households. On a global level, we’re involved with multiple charitable endeavors to help fund food programs, disaster relief, civic organizations, and a number of other important causes.
